Apple Showing New Feature, Unlocking Cars With Just Using Phone

Apple has revealed its newest feature that is CarKey. A way to unlock your car with just using iPhone wirelessly. As we know, the phone has been used as an important thing in our daily life such as becoming an alarm clock or even a camera.

Now, the device can be used as a car key virtually. The new feature was announced by Apple at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

“They’ve been around for over 100 years but they’ve become big, bulky and ripe for reimagining,” said Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi about the traditional car keys.

It is believed that CarKey feature will be firstly used on the 2021 BMW 5 Series. But, Apple hopes to expand it to other car models in the future.

Not just that, drivers also can share the virtual car key with friends and family by using iMessage, so that they can use the car too.

Apple’s Senior Manager of Car Experience Engineering, Emily Schubert also shows how to unlock your car with just tap the door handle using your iPhone or Apple Watch.

CarKey is part of the newly revealed iOS 14 and it operates by using Apple Wallet. Other than CarKey, iOS 14 also includes a redesigned home screen, app library, widgets, PIP, compact Siri design, Siri translation, App Clips, pinned conversations in messages, mentions in messages, improvements to maps. For the improvements of CarPlay, it will also available for iOS 13.
