MAF Ready To Pay Incentives For National Records Set

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — The Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) has pledged to settle the incentive payments for new records set by some national athletes that have yet to be disbursed by the sporting body’s previous leadership.

MAF president Datuk S.M Muthu said the body was currently gathering the related documentation before making the payments.

“We will pay (the incentive) and the athletes involved need not worry. I have only requested them to submit the documents in black and white. Maybe within two months, we will settle the payments to the athletes involved,” he told Bernama recently.

Recently, several national athletes including national long jump record holder Andre Anura Anuar and national disc thrower Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin claimed that MAF had yet to pay incentive payments to them for national records set in various international tournaments.

Bernama understands that MAF provides an incentive of RM1,000 for new national records set by athletes in local or international tournaments.

Meanwhile, Muthu confirmed that some elite national athletes will be allowed to train at the National Sports Council (MSN) Mini Stadium in Bukit Jalil, tomorrow in preparation for several Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifying tournaments.

He said full training would commence for all national athletes on July 5, in compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by MSN to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Some national athletes previously expressed concern over preparations for next year’s international championships after MAF was said to have failed to obtain the final word from MSN over the date they were allowed to begin training.
