Government Announces Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik, Free Electric Supply

As many as four million domestic consumers with a monthly electricity bill of less than RM77 or consumption below 300kWh will enjoy a free electricity supply for three months from April to June 2020 under the additional Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik (BPE).

The Prime Minister has already approved this additional Electricity Assistance for all-electric consumers in the domestic category of the Peninsula. It will ease the burden of consumers following the significant increase in billing during the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Before that, what did you understand about BPE?

What is Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik (BPE)?

BPE is an additional assistance package provided by the Government of Malaysia with TNB to all domestic customers in the form of free electricity usage benefits of up to RM77 per month, equivalent to the first 300kWh electricity usage for the 3 month CPP implementation.

In addition, domestic consumers who use electricity between 601 to 900 kWh per month will enjoy an additional discount of 10% which is an additional 8% of the existing discount rate of 2% from April 2020 to December 2020.

Benefits To 7.66 Million Users

The total number of beneficiaries of electricity is 7.66 million. Of that amount, 4 million or 52.2% of domestic consumers with monthly electricity bills of RM77 and below (consumption of 300kWh and below) will enjoy electricity for free for 3 months.

Domestic consumers using electricity over 300kWh will receive an RM231 electricity bill of RM77 a month for April, May, and June 2020. This assistance is in addition to the discounts of Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) that have been implemented since April 1, 2020.

So all domestic customers of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will receive BPE, the amount will be included in the bill in July 2020. Do not be surprised when you receive your bill in July.

You also do not need to review the eligibility as BPE will be provided automatically to all domestic customers. You do not have to be upset anymore. It is hoped that the assistance provided by the government in collaboration with TNB can ease your burden later.

Your Meter Has Been Read!

For information, you will receive a Notice of Alert on BPE in July 2020 after the meter is read. Over the next seven days, you will receive your July 2020 bill along with a detailed statement of additional Electrical Concern Assistance. The bill and statement will be sent by post to your premises.

Not only that, but you can also get the bills and statements through the application or myTNB , 48 hours after the notification notice is received. This is only applicable if you receive the actual bill for June 2020.

For more information, you can also click on the Electrical Concern Help (BPE) website.
