A river in China has been covered with snow-like bubbles after several tons of detergent powder spilled into the river. Through the video that has gone viral on social media, the thick foam layer covered the Shitou river in Mei County of Baoji City.

The incident that happened on June 26 also caused the river to turn white.

According to media reports, more than 20 barrels of detergent was spilled after the lorry carrying the material crashed and caused it to spread at rivers nearby.

The county environmental officials reported that 4 tonnes of ‘alkyl benzene sulfonic acid’ had entered the river. He added that even though the washer was spilled in large quantities, it would not affect the local water supply as it was not harmful to consumers and was easily soluble.

In another statement, authorities said the delivery truck had 145 barrels of 28 tons of detergent powder and about 20 barrels had been leaked.

Health officials denied that there are locals that were seen playing in the bubbly river despite a video circulated in social media. According to them, bathing directly on water-filled with “alkyl benzene sulfonic acid” will cause inflammation of the skin and irritation to the eyes.
