Auditory Hallucinations, What Is Schizophrenia?

Mental health issues are now beginning to be taken seriously by today’s society. A few days ago, we received very tragic and sad news for which an eight-month-old baby was found dead in sacks with a salt-snored state.

It is believed to have been killed by his own father. Further investigation found the possibility of a suspect suffering from mental problems and was once discovered talking ridiculous matters other than a ghostly description to his neighbor over the past two weeks.

Furthermore, until now the suspect did not speak to be taken evidence, instead just thinking and informed him of the angel’s voice before killing his son.

Understanding Schizophrenia disease

This refined disease is also known as schizophrenia. In other words, it is a chronic mental illness with disability characteristics so that one cannot distinguish between reality and the fantasy realm.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness caused by the imbalance of one chemical cell in the brain (dopamine).

It is a functional psychosis disorder in the form of recurrent mental disorders with psychotic symptoms such as social function setbacks, work functions, and self-care.

People with this disease are likely to be able to see, hear, and feel but what is heard, seen, and felt that is not something that exists in the real world.

It is considered true by the sufferer so that it can influence the behavior of the sufferer.

The disease has been around for hundreds of years but it was detected as a mental illness in 1887 by Dr. Emelin Kreaplin.

The effects of the disease will affect the patient’s thinking process. The disease is acquired through environmental changes such as feeling stress, financial problems, and others.

Some even associate with problems coming from genetics. It also starts from depression so that it can act self-harm and others.

According to Dr. Ng Chong Guan, Associate Professor of Psikiatari, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaya, about 30 percent of Malaysians are the highest in mental illnesses and women are the highest in the percentage of the disease from men.

The disease usually begins in late adolescence and early adulthood that is during the most critical phase of an individual’s life cycle. He says that in 10 years, the percentage that will get the disease will double in 10 years.

Schizophrenia Can Be Cure

Schizophrenia cannot be treated with one type of treatment only. It requires a combination of treatments covering aspects such as:

Psychotherapy – Psychological treatment aims to provide emotional support to patients.

Pharmacology – Use of medications to restore biochemical imbalances in the brain as well as to reduce symptoms of diseases.

Psychosocial

  • The involvement of patients in various activities such as psycho-education helps patients realize that treatment and rehabilitation are not only dependent on medication or psychotherapy, but the environment also affects it.
  • Family member’s support is also important in helping patient rehabilitation. Their involvement is necessary to provide moral and emotional support to patients in the process of pain rehabilitation
