Over 900 Women In Kedah To Receive RM500 From Sejahtera Fund – Exco

ALOR SETAR, Oct 19 — A total of 952 women with an income level below the Kedah Poverty Line (2016), will receive one-off RM500 assistance each from the state’s Tabung Sejahtera Wanita (TSW) (women wellbeing fund) at the end of the month.

State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Halimaton Shaadiah Saad said the handout was aimed at helping the recipients improve their household income and the socio-economic status.

“Eligible recipients have been shortlisted and they are selected based on priorities, namely those in the low-income group as well as those who run a small business.

“Our system has screened applicants aged 18 to 65 with income under RM866 (monthly) and RM227 (per capita),” she told Bernama here, today, adding that the fund was a continuation of the state’s Tabung Khas Wanita (TKW) (women special fund) implemented last year.

Halimaton Shaadiah said previously the fund was channeled to women who took care of bedridden children or husband, but now the state government is focusing on women who carry out small businesses to help them increase their capital.

She said from the 16,022 applications received, 3,477 recipients have been identified as eligible recipients but only 952 individuals would receive the aid based on the existing quota.

According to her the community service center in each state constituency would handle the distribution of aid.
