Kuala Terengganu Free from Haemorrhagic Septicaemia – Vet Dept

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 20 — As of yesterday, Kuala Terengganu district has been declared free of haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) disease, said state Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) director Dr Mohd Termizi Ghazali.

He said that the last death due to the disease in the district was reported on Sept 28.

“The disease was first detected in Kuala Terengganu in early September involving two breeders and the death of two cows and 58 buffaloes,” he told reporters today.

Only three districts in Terengganu recorded this disease this year, namely, Marang, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu, he said.

For the Marang district, the disease was detected in early August involving 14 breeders, with 17 cows and 22 buffaloes reportedly killed.

The district was declared free from the disease on Sept 27.

In Kuala Nerus, it was first detected on Sept 30 involving four breeders and 15 cows while the last death recorded was Oct 10 and the district was declared free of HS on Tuesday.

Dr Mohd Termizi said that vaccination exercise has been carried out statewide to contain the disease.

“However, we recommend that farmers whose livestocks have not yet to be vaccinated, to do as soon as possible to prevent the risk of recurrence of the outbreak due to the current hot and rainy weather which is one of the contributing factors behind the disease,” he said.
