(Video) Helicopter Carries Heart For Organ Transplant Crash On Hospital Roof

A patient in need of a new heart successfully underwent surgery even after the helicopter carrying the organ crashed on the roof of the hospital.

A medical helicopter, AgustaWestland AW109 was reported being out of control before landing and overturned on the landing site above the Keck Hospital in Los Angeles.

All three helicopter passengers were reported safe without serious injuries. In the incident around 3.15 pm, the helicopter fan blade was believed to have hit a part of the hospital roof, causing debris to fall down before the plane overturned on the hospital roof.

Rescue teams managed to retrieve organs brought from San Diego using the helicopter and handed it over to hospital staff.

Even so, the medical officer who was believed to be carrying the organ had tripped, before falling on the floor with the ‘organ’.

However, the swift action of the staff at the location managed to save the organ and succeeded in the organ transfer mission to the recipient at the hospital within two hours after the accident.

One of the witnesses of the incident was reported to have said that he thought there was an earthquake when the helicopter overturned on the building.

“The building shook. I thought it was an earthquake, ”Javier Chamorro, 59, told local media.

People in the surrounding area also claimed to have seen debris from the top of the building fall down. No casualties were reported.
