Donald Trump Permanently Banned From Snapchat

According to a tweet from the site on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump has been permanently suspended from Snapchat.

“Last week we announced an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat (SNAP) account, and have been assessing what long term action is in the best interest of our Snapchat community,” a Snapchat spokesperson said.

“In the interest of public safety, and based on his attempts to spread misinformation, hate speech, and incite violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have made the decision to permanently terminate his account.”

In the aftermath of the US Capitol protests and ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week, social media sites have been struggling to remove or restrict the scope of offensive posts and accounts, with a particular emphasis on what to do about accounts linked to the President.

Facebook said last week that it would bar Trump’s account from posting for at least the remainder of his time as president and maybe “indefinitely.” Twitter, a favorite online megaphone of Trump, initially locked his account for encouraging what became a violent U.S. Capitol uprising.

Before Twitter determined it had eventually had enough and permanently suspended his account, he would tweet twice more.

YouTube said Tuesday that after its channel won a strike under the platform’s policies, it is suspending Trump’s channel for at least one week, and possibly longer.
