(Video) Mount Semeru In Indonesia Blows Off Steam As High As 4,500 Meters

Mount Semeru volcano in Indonesia has surprisingly erupted on January 16, blew off a huge cloud of smoke thousands of meters into the air. According to a report, the sliding distance of the eruption was approximately 4.5 kilometers. Mount Semeru is actually the highest volcano on Indonesia’s most densely populated island of Java.

The video of Mount Semeru which erupted on Saturday went viral on Twitter.

There were no immediate evacuations after the eruption but the National Disaster Mitigation Agency has warned people who live in the villages on the slopes of the 3,676-meter-high (12,060-foot) mountain to be vigilant in looking for signs of danger. Agency spokesperson that is Raditya Jati said people around the river basin on the slopes of the mountain should beware of high rainfall intensity that can trigger lava floods.

The 3,676-metre mountain is now categorized as level two or alert status, adding that Indonesia’s Volcanological Survey (PVBMG) is conducting further evaluations of the eruption and this fact is according to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). There are more than 70 active volcanoes, with seven erupting within the past two years.
