Midea Scott and English Organises RM20,000 Cash Prize Cooking Competition For Students, Keeping Them Engaged During The Pandemic

This will be the First Campus Masterchef Challenge to be hosted by Malaysia’s only MasterChef, Dato’ Fazley

With many culinary and everyday talented students who take pride in their cooking ability being stuck at home with no avenue to showcase their skills, Midea Scott & English Electronics Sdn Bhd a popular consumer electronic brand together with Malaysia’s MasterChef Dato Fazley have come with a first ever hybrid cooking competition especially for campus students.

Campus MasterChef Challenge (CMC) a nationwide event kicked off with hundreds of participations with 200 teams across 80 universities finally being selected. These teams were then required to share their culinary photo’s together with a creative caption in order to qualify for the competition.

Upon shortlisting, 40 teams were then given Midea products like blender, steamer, airdryer and cooker to whip out a famous family recipe, shoot the whole process in video and submit to Dato Fazley to pick the best. (These products were then given to them for keeps!)

From there our honorary judge will now select 10 for a virtual pitching session to be held on February 5th where he will pose some tough questions to gauge on their skills and showmanship. Out of which only 4 teams will be chosen for a final cook-off at a ground event to schedule after MCO in March.

The event began its journey in November 2020 and will see the final cook-off challenge in March to held in a culinary school setting here in Kuala Lumpur. With strict SOP compliance, all 4 teams of 2 members each will be joined by our judges, Dato Fazly, Midea CEO and the culinary school chef.

Participants have 3 hours to impress the judges with a 3 course meal on that day and have a chance to take home  RM10,000 cash + certificate as the main prize with second place getting RM 5,000 cash + certificate and third place will win RM 3,000 cash + certificate. The fourth-place winner will also receive prizes from Midea Scott & English.

Other activities opened for all includes a social media competition, “What I Ate Today?” which will require Facebook and Instagram fans to submit a photo of their meals together with a creative caption along with the hashtag #whatiatetoday and tag @MideaCMC to stand a chance to win special gifts from Midea.

We hope that you can share this positive initiative designed especially for students who have been spending time at home, the competition’s objective is to put a cheer in their eyes and keep them engaged while having an opportunity to earn additional income during these trying times.
