Police Chief Saves A Senior Citizen, Willing To Carry Her During Floods

A senior citizen did not think that the man who was carrying her while passing through the flood area was a police chief.

“I’m sorry sir, I’m very sorry,” said the senior citizen when Cilandak Police Chief, Kompol Iskandarsyah was determined to carry her 100 meters to be taken to the evacuation center following her residence at Jalan Mandala Bawah 2, Cilandak Barat, facing floods last Saturday.

The home of the 60-year-old woman, who suffers from osteonecrosis and gout, was flooded.

The woman admitted not knowing the man who helped save her before the village chief revealed the identity of the individual.

“I did not know the man was the police chief. Only yesterday I knew the man was the Cilandak police chief after being told by the village chief,” she said when met at the evacuation center here.

Sukarni said, during the period she was carrying, she apologized to Iskandarsyah, without knowing that the man was a police chief.

When the flood hit, Sukarni was with her grandson while her son saved the motorcycle from being swept away by the flood.

Rescue teams including the Cilandak Police Chief then went to her house to help evacuate the woman.

“At first the man informed to save me for fear the water was rising.

“But I refused because I could not walk because my legs hurt,” she said.

However, said Sukarni, Iskandarsyah insisted on saving her by carrying her on the back.

“I was embarrassed when he wanted to carry me, but finally accepted the offer. Alhamdulillah, thank you to him, I apologize for being heavy.

“Throughout the trip, I saw Iskandarsyah very calm throughout rescuing flood victims,” she said.

Meanwhile, Iskandarsyah said, the rescue team found Sukarni inside the house and thought the woman was living alone.

“It just so happens that there we see there are some people left in the house. The grandmother appeared in the window. We thought she was alone, we did not know she had a grandchild, “said Iskandarsyah.
