101 Years Old Fundraiser Will Lead A Charity Walk While Fasting For Ramadan

A centenarian, Dabirul Islam Choudhury is leading a global fundraiser with a walking challenge while fasting during the month of Ramadan.

The man who age 101 years old, raised more than £420,000 (RM2,420,481.42) by walking 970 laps in his garden. He has set the challenge, which has seen people in more than 150 cities worldwide sign up to raise funds for Covid-19 victims. Initially, it was due to take place on April 17 but was postponed to April 24 because of Prince Philip’s funeral.

“I feel proud they have honored me for the efforts I have done. I thank everybody from the bottom of my heart,” he said.

The challenge will see people walk in their local park or garden, with the aim of reaching 1.5 million steps by everybody taking part. His son, Atique described his father as an active and charitable person.

“He is determined to help those in need, especially families of those who have lost loved ones due to the deadly virus,” said Atique.

Funds raised will be divided equally among the partner charities of CHS TV’s Ramadan Family Commitment initiative, helping families and victims affected by Covid-19 worldwide, as well as people in refugee camps.
