Four MPPD Staff Remanded Over Bribery

SEREMBAN, April 16  — Four Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) personnel were remanded for six days until Wednesday to facilitate investigation into a case of soliciting and receiving bribes from market traders.

Seremban Special Remand Court assistant registrar Mas Azmimin Ahmad issued the order to remand all of them, aged between 36 and 53, to facilitate investigation under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The suspects, who worked as assistant environmental health officer, public health assistants and enforcement assistant, were detained yesterday at the Negeri Sembilan MACC office, at about 2 pm.

They allegedly solicited and accepted bribes from morning and night market traders in Lukut and Port Dickson, as an inducement not to take action against the unlicensed traders.
