Floods are actually among Earth’s most common and also most destructive natural hazards. A flood occurs when water inundates land that is normally dry, which can happen in a multitude of ways. According to the facts, most floods would take hours or even days to develop, giving residents time to prepare or evacuate. In some other cases, floods could generate quickly and sadly with little warning. So-called flash floods can be extremely dangerous.

Floods can happen almost anywhere. They can cover an area with just a few inches of water or they can bring enough water to cover the roof of a house. Floods can be dangerous for communities, lasting days, weeks, or sometimes even longer. There would be probably a lot about floods and also flooding you might still do not know about.

There are 3 common types of floods:

  • Flash floods are caused by rapid and excessive rainfall that raises water heights quickly, and rivers, streams, channels, or roads may be overtaken.
  • River floods are caused when consistent rain or snowmelt forces a river to exceed capacity.
  • Coastal floods are caused by storm surges associated with tropical cyclones and tsunami.
