(Video) Morbius Movie Got Delayed To April 2022, Makes Many Fans So Upset

Morbius is actually an upcoming American superhero movie featuring the Marvel Comics character of the same name, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is intended to be the third movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

The movie is directed by Daniel Espinosa, written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, and stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. In the particular movie, Morbius becomes a vampire after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease. It is initially scheduled to be released on the 1st of April 2022, delayed from an initial July 2020 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans are indeed so upset about the news.

While the April 1st date may appear like an early April Fool’s joke to some, the reasoning behind a Morbius delay could be due to the rising omicron COVID numbers over the last several weeks. Plus, with Spider-Man: No Way Home still dominating the box office, this allows Morbius to debut after the Spidey film has made its way through theaters. Hopefully, this will be the last time for the highly anticipated Morbius movie release date to be postponed.

In its new release date, Morbius will face off against Easter Sunday which is a comedy with Jimmy O. Yang and Tiffany Haddish, as well as the Chris Pine thriller that is The Contractor. Sony just scored massive box office successes with both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, so it makes sense that it would try to give Morbius a longer runway at a time when the public health situation is complicating things.

The studio is planning another standalone spinoff based on Spidey villain Kraven the Hunter, so the stakes are high. Sony licenses the Spider-Man character and the rights to his various antagonists and allies from Marvel in a deal that pre-dates the comic book company’s major move into moviemaking and its acquisition by the Walt Disney Company.
