Jeff Bezos announced Dolly Parton, 76, as the latest recipient of the Courage And Civility Award. Bezos, the founder of Amazon and the second richest person in the world, awarded the singer $100million. Parton is free to use the money for any charity of her choice.
Jeff Bezos’ Courage And Civility Award began in 2001. The award gives appreciation to those who “pursue solutions with courage and civility.”
Let’s get to know Dolly Parton
Her name is Dolly Rebecca Parton. Born in January 1946, she is the fourth child out of twelve siblings. Her singing and music talent runs in the family. Furthermore, her uncle, Bill Owens, was the one who introduced her to the music industry. She has received many awards in the industry, including the Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar, Tony, and more. She is also the recipient of the Living Legend Award.
Aside from being known as a country singer, Parton is the founder of the Dollywood Foundation or known as Dolly’s Imagination Library. The foundation acts as an organization that mails high-quality books to children under five in several countries, every month.
Parton is also a songwriter, author, businesswoman, and actress. The good deeds that she had shown, like doing charities, had received her a name in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this month.
Parton received Bezos Award
Upon receiving the award, Parton is quite shocked by the amount of money given to her. In her speech, she mentioned, “I will do my best to do good things with this money.”
Van Jones, an activist, and Jose Andres, a chef and activist who provides people with food in catastrophe areas, were among the people who had received the award.
