Saudi Arabia Announces Public Holiday After Beating Argentina

Saudi Arabia shocked the world after beating Lionel Messi’s Argentina in a 2-1 victory yesterday at the 2022 World Cup.

Saudi King Salman announced that all public and private employees will get a holiday on Wednesday to celebrate the win. Schools will also close on the day.

Turki al-Sheikh, an adviser at the Royal Court and chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, stated on Twitter that entry costs will be free at major theme parks and entertainment centres in the city on Tuesday.

Prince Mohammed’s brother, Prince Saud, shared photos on Instagram of his happy brother and Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz, posing with the Saudi flag.

Saudi Arabia when behind after a penalty kick from Lionel Messi. However, Saudi Arabia came back with an equaliser from Saleh Al-Shehri. Later on, a game-winning goal from Salem Al-Dawsari makes way for one of the greatest World Cup shocks in history.

After the final whistle, supporters in the capital city of Riyadh formed spontaneous dance circles and waved the national flag from the windows of their cars.

It is a historic match for Saudi Arabia who is the second-lowest ranked team in the tournament. Not only that, Saudi Arabia also managed to stop Argentina 36-game unbeaten run.

Lionel Messi’s side last defeat was back in 2019 where they lost to Brazil. However, this doesn’t mean the end for Argentina. When they lost their first match in the group stage of the World Cup to Cameroon in 1990, they eventually managed to reach the finals.

Even though they lost that final, this could be a good indication of where their team is heading.
