Singaporean Man Sentenced 1 Month Jail, Threw 25kg Bicycle From 14th Floor

A Singaporean man threw a 25 kg bicycle from the 14th floor of a Housing Board block in Choa Chu Kang Crescent after a quarrel with his wife.

It was a rash and immoral act on his behalf. And due to that, he was sentenced to a month’s jail.

What happened?

As their wedding reception was around the corner, the husband and wife quarreled over the outfit they were supposed to wear on that memorable day.

After the fight ended, he left the house fuming in anger. Then, he saw a yellow bicycle parked outside of his unit.

He couldn’t contain his fury. Therefore, he took the bicycle and mindlessly threw it over the parapet.

Luckily, there were no passers-by at that time. But later, some members of the board house community called the police and reported the scene.

He denied the allegation at first

When he was investigated by the police, the husband said it wasn’t him.

According to CNA, the prosecutor asked for six weeks of jail time. It’s because the bike was thrown from a high distance. It could easily danger anyone who passed by the place.

Not only that, but the prosecution also noted that he was diagnosed with borderline intellectual functioning, meaning his IQ is below average. Yet, it’s not low enough to be regarded as an intellectual disability.

His defense lawyer asked for two weeks’ jail instead

The lawyer argued that it was his client’s ’emotional reaction’ to the argument he faced. Additionally, he also showed great remorse for everything he did.

For what he did, the husband could have been jailed for up to six months, fined S$2,500 or both.

His action of throwing the bicycle is dangerous and can lead to other unwanted accidents. Hence, we should try to control our emotions so we can think wisely and not do anything reckless.
