The Shiba Inu Behind ‘Doge Meme’, Diagnosed With Liver Disease And Leukaemia At Age 17

It’s indeed a piece of heartbreaking news for many. The Shiba Inu that inspired the Doge meme, Kabosu, was diagnosed with liver disease and leukemia at the tender age of 17.

Kabosu’s owner, a kindergarten teacher Atsuko Sato, shared the news through multiple Instagram posts.

Kabosu has been unwell since Christmas Eve

Sato uploaded a photo of her with her dog with the caption that read, “During the Christmas Eve. Kabosu is recovering. But she is not drinking or eating. We’ll visit the hospital today.”

Despite that, the following post assured us that she was slowly recuperating. However, Kabosu’s condition has worsened. It didn’t hinder Sato’s positive mindset at all. In fact, the teacher believed her beloved dog could recover from “all the power [we] got from all over the world”.

The dog is diagnosed with two severe medical conditions

Sato brought Kabosu to the hospital for a few blood tests two days ago. She was told by the doctor that Kabosu’s condition would affect the dog’s health. Sato didn’t expect it to be serious.

Yet, the warm-hearted Sato remains optimistic as she believes a miracle will happen to them. And this is not the end for her and the adorable dog.

Heartbreakingly, Kabosu now suffers from acute cholangiohepatitis and chronic lymphoma leukemia.

Sato added the liver condition is very bad, and Kabosu also experiences jaundice. Antibiotics are given to Kabosu, and hopefully, they can improve her health again.

The good news is she still has an appetite! She also can drink water. That’s a relief.

We are crossing our fingers that the cute dog will not lose her appetite. We believe Sato will provide nutritious and delicious foods for her for a speedy recovery!

There’s still hope for the beloved dog to heal. Let’s gather in a prayer circle and hope this cute dog will recover well. We love you, Kabosu and Sato!
