Architectural Digest, one of the renowned architecture magazines, shared an interesting list of the 27 most beautiful bridges worldwide. And what a surprise! Malaysia’s Seri Wawasan Bridge snatched the third spot behind Constitution Bridge (Venice, Italy) and Henderson Waves Bridge (Singapore)! Now, that’s what we call awesome.

Moreover, other astounding bridges include Nescio Bridge (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Rialto Bridge (Venice, Italy), Zubizuri (Bilbao, Spain) and Manhattan Bridge (New York City, USA). Read the complete list here.

These are some breathtaking bridges with a magnificent view of the city. Therefore, it’s an honour for Malaysians to earn third place in this list.

The history of Seri Wawasan Bridge

The bridge located in Putrajaya was completed in 2003. It was designed by the Kuala Lumpur-based firm PJSI Consultants.

The concept behind this breathtaking bridge is futuristic. It has a sailing ship appearance, completed with changeable colour lighting at night.

Additionally, the bridge, known as Bridge No. 9, transcends the manmade Putrajaya Lake that connects Precinct 2 on the Core Island. There is where the main government buildings are situated.

The bridge’s structure is intelligently crafted. It’s a longitudinally asymmetric cable-stayed box-girder bridge with an inverted Y-shape concrete/steel pylon 96 meters (315 ft) high. It’s supported by 30 pairs of forward cables, anchored on the 75° forward-inclined pylon. Furthermore, the outer edges of the bridge deck are arranged in a fan shape pattern!

The bridge has dual three-lane carriageways of 18.6 m width each. It compromises 3 x 3.5 m width lanes, 0.5 m hard shoulder, and 0.5 marginal strips.

Seri Wawasan Bridge definitely deserves the win. Look at its beauty!
