McDonald’s Malaysia And The Ministry of Education Malaysia Honour 25 Outstanding Teachers

McDonald’s Malaysia has unveiled the 25 winners of the Anugerah Guru Inspirasi (AGI) McDonald’s 2023 during the national level Teachers’ Day celebration event. This annual award conceptualised by McDonald’s aims to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional educators from the Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia, who have shown extraordinary dedication in fostering their students’ academic excellence and character development. The award presentation ceremony was graced by YB Puan Fadhlina Binti Sidek, Minister of Education Malaysia.

AGI McDonald’s is the quick service restaurant’s initiative to underscore its commitment to recognize and honour outstanding educators who are known more popularly as ‘Cikgu Luar Biasa’ – in particular those who have significantly contributed to shaping the younger generation.

Thanks to the solid partnership between the MOE Malaysia and McDonald’s Malaysia, AGI McDonald’s 2023 has successfully uncovered stories of ‘Cikgu Luar Biasa’ from across Malaysia. This year’s awards programme received more than 16,000 nominations.

“McDonald’s values the strategic partnership and strong support provided by the Ministry of Education. This collaboration has successfully increased the number of nominations by threefold, recording in excess of 16,000 nominations. The exceptional stories that have been submitted demonstrate that this award has garnered widespread attention, and serves as a platform for communities to share the remarkable stories of their ‘Cikgu Luar Biasa’ who have made a difference in their lives,” said Dato’ Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, McDonald’s Malaysia.

In support of MOE’s efforts to maintain educator well-being, McDonald’s Malaysia will also donate RM5,000 to upgrade teachers’ rooms in schools where AGI McDonald’s 2023 winners work.

“The contribution to upgrade teachers’ rooms is one of McDonald’s Malaysia’s efforts to acknowledge the contributions of educators – not only towards the AGI McDonald’s 2023 recipients but also to all their colleagues at the school. This prize also signifies McDonald’s support for MOE’s initiatives to maintain teacher welfare and ensure their well-being,” added Dato’ Azmir.

McDonald’s also appreciates and acknowledges students who participated in this campaign by nominating their teachers. With MOE’s approval and consent, in addition to receiving trophies, certificates, and RM500 vouchers, students will be awarded Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani Sukan Kokurikulum (PAJSK) scores for their initiative to submit compelling stories about their ‘Cikgu Luar Biasa.’ These scores can help enhance students’ overall development, a crucial aspect of academic advancement efforts.

Since its inception in 2017, AGI McDonald’s has recognized 156 teachers who have gone above and beyond their duties in educating, motivating, and impacting the nation’s future generation. For this year’s AGI McDonald’s 2023 recipients, each winner will receive a cash prize of RM5,000, a trophy, as well as a certificate.

To further commemorate Teacher’s Day and honour Malaysian teachers, McDonald’s Malaysia will celebrate teachers nationwide at all 340 McDonald’s restaurants throughout Malaysia during the month of May.

The nomination period for AGI McDonald’s 2023 began on 20 March 2023 and concluded on 15 April 2023. A panel of judges consisting of representatives from McDonald’s, MOE officials, and media members were involved in the selection of the award winners.
