The new facility stands as a beacon of innovation, underscoring Sun Bus Tech’s commitment to advancing environmentally friendly and efficient transportation solutions.

During the event, Sun Bus Tech also unveiled its successful work on developing the Model T for the renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, Foxtron, highlighting its capability to manage sophisticated projects for global leaders in the industry. This achievement was witnessed by Michael Kuo, Special Assistant to the CEO (CEO Office) of Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Foxconn.

“With over 50 years of experience in the industry, Sun Bus Tech is proud to pioneer bus body manufacturing in Malaysia and beyond,” said Mr. Phang Sun Wah, Founder & Chairman of Sun Bus Tech. “Our partnership with global leaders like HESS and the technology transfer from Scania Sweden have enabled us to implement industry-first advancements such as our patented Co-Bolt technology. This facility is not just aboutmanufacturing buses, it’s about pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sustainable transportation, setting new standards that extend beyond conventional methods. We are excited to have already secured significant contracts from regional and neighbouring governments, positioning Sun Bus Tech as the leader in the industry.”

Yang Berhormat Tuan Ir. Ts. Mohamad Fazli bin Mohamad Salleh, Chairman of the Johor State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure & Communications Committee, emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and strategic development, stating, “The establishment of Sun Bus Tech’s manufacturing plant is a good example of Johor’s dedication to becoming a sustainable and eco-friendly state. This venture is not only about creating green jobs and significantly reducing carbon emissions but also aligns with our broader vision for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Through enhanced connectivity, modern facilities, and an increased share of public transportation, we are determined to transition Johor—and Malaysia—towards a low-carbon economy, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future.”

Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Liew Chin Tong, also stated, “As Malaysia outlines its economic strategy for the ASEAN Chairmanship, Johor is poised to play a pivotal role in fostering regional trade and investment. The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone will also strengthen Malaysia’s position in regional and global supply chains. I look forward to having innovative companies like Sun Bus Tech to contribute to Johor’s economic growth and position Johor as a key player in driving Malaysia’s broader vision for economic integration within ASEAN. This investment reflects our commitment to nurturing a dynamic, future-ready economy that attracts global talents and businesses to our shores.”

This partnership is a crucial step towards a more sustainable and efficient future in public transportation.”

Sun Bus Tech has already laid a solid foundation for success over the past 12 months even before its official opening today, firming up partnerships with industry giants like HESS Switzerland and securing cutting-edge technology from Scania Sweden. The integration of patented aluminum technology represents a significant industry breakthrough, while the facility’s focus on sustainability, including the use of solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and energy-efficient systems, has earned the company a Green Building Index (GBI) certification.

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Sun Bus Tech to the Malaysian industry ecosystem. As a key player in the automotive industry, we believe their expertise and commitment to sustainability will be a fantastic addition to our ecosystem,” said Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). “MIDA will continue to work closely with Sun Bus Tech to facilitate their growth, ensuring that Malaysia’s skilled workforce and infrastructure support their goal of leading the region in sustainable public transportation. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Sun Bus Tech!”

The event was further highlighted by Sun Bus Tech’s commitment to giving back to the community. As part of the grand opening, the company donated RM30,000 to support four local schools, reflecting its dedication to uplifting the local society.

In addition to bus and bus body manufacturing, Sun Bus Tech has also established a joint venture with the Polish seat manufacturer STER Sp. z o.o., focusing on the supply of commercial vehicle seats in Asia. “Our vision is simple. We want to deliver economical, reliable, and progressive solutions to the demand for sustainable public transport. We play our part to contribute to a better living environment,” added Mr. Phang Sun Wah.

Johor’s strategic location, bolstered by the recent establishment of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ), continues to attract top-tier investments. The grand opening of Sun Bus Tech’s plant further exemplifies the state’s dedication to promoting innovation and economic growth. Designed to produce over 500 commercial vehicles annually, this facility is expected to create over 150 jobs, driving both local and regional economic development.
