Panic at Hangzhou Safari Park After Black Bear Lunges at Trainer, Park Issues Official Statement

A routine animal behaviour show at Hangzhou Safari Park, China, turned chaotic on December 6, 2025, when a black bear lunged at a trainer, sending nearby visitors into a panic.

Park Explains What Happened

According to Hangzhou Safari Park, the incident occurred at 3:50 p.m. during an animal behaviour show when the black bear “struggled with the trainer over food” carried during the performance.

The park confirmed that neither the trainer nor the bear was injured, but acknowledged that the on-site handling was inadequate, resulting in a poor experience for visitors. The park apologised for the distress caused.

All Black Bear Shows Cancelled Immediately

In the statement, the park emphasised that it is taking the matter “very seriously” and announced several immediate actions:

All black bear shows have been cancelled effective immediately.
The involved bear will receive proper comfort, care, and observation to ensure its physical and mental well-being.

The park will reflect deeply, implement active rectifications, and work to improve management and emergency response capabilities to prevent similar incidents.

Public Thanked for Support

Hangzhou Safari Park also expressed its gratitude to the public for their concern and continued support as they work to strengthen safety measures.

The video has sparked renewed discussion online about the risks of live animal performances and the importance of proper welfare standards, both for the animals and the trainers who work closely with them.
