Bijan’s New ‘Makan Berhidang’ Menus Bring Back the Joy of Communal Dining

We create the most meaningful meals by sharing, not by serving individual plates.

At Bijan Bar & Restaurant (“Bijan”), Makan Berhidang marks the season with a series of set menus served in the traditional Malay style of sharing dishes around the table.

During a time of reflection and community, these menus are gateways to nostalgia, conversation, and new memories.

The Makan Berhidang set menus are designed for communal dining and serve four people. They provide a complete meal meant to be enjoyed together.

The approach reflects how Malays have long shared meals after a day of fasting. They value balance and togetherness as much as abundance.

At the heart of Makan Berhidang is a dining philosophy guided by four essential elements: Dry, Wet, Spicy and Fresh.

When these elements come together, the meal feels complete and satisfying, without any single dish dominating the table. This balance allows flavours, textures and temperatures to complement one another naturally.

This philosophy has long shaped how Bijan prepares and serves its food.

Bijan curates every dish to complement the rest. The team balances richness with freshness and softens spice with lighter elements. They craft gravies for diners to savour with rice, staying true to Malay dining traditions.

Located on Jalan Ceylon in Kuala Lumpur, Bijan has been serving traditional Malay cuisine for over 20 years. Bijan presents these dishes within a refined dining setting.

“With Makan Berhidang, we wanted to return to a way of dining that feels complete without being excessive, where the table is meant to be shared and the food naturally finds its balance.” said a representative of Bijan.
