NCSM x Pharm-D Power Up to Launch the VALENS Fund: A Nation-Wide Boost for Cancer Patients

On World Cancer Day 2026, the world spoke of hope and healing. Malaysia took a step that turned those words into action.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stepped forward to unveil the NCSM–PDHS VALENS Support Fund. The initiative aims to ease the burden on cancer patients who need specialised nutrition and long-term support.

And yes, this is more than just another announcement. It’s a meaningful collaboration between the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and Pharm-D Health Science (PDHS), built on three powerful pillars:

  • Accessibility
  • Sustainability
  • Transparency

World Cancer Day runs on the theme “United by Unique” this year, a reminder that every cancer journey is different; no two stories, struggles, or recoveries look the same.

In Malaysia, the theme hits home with national efforts to champion prevention and early detection. Most importantly, it reinforces the need for equal access to care.

The new VALENS Support Fund takes that theme and turns it into something tangible.

Its mission: to make sure underserved cancer patients can access specialised nutritional support that helps them cope better with treatment and improve their quality of life. Because good nutrition isn’t a luxury in cancer care, it’s essential.

1,000 Cans of Hope and a Lot More Where That Came From

To kick things off, Pharm-D Health Science pledged 1,000 cans of VALENS Onthera+, a specialised immunonutrition formula.

The initiative, aptly named “Onthera+ 1,000 Cans of Hope,” is a direct, immediate lifeline for patients who need nutritional reinforcement the most.

But PDHS didn’t stop at a one-off donation. The company committed a portion of its VALENS product sales to NCSM under this fund, creating a sustainable support cycle instead of a one-time splash.

Think of it as the subscription model of doing good with real, measurable benefits.

Accountability, But Make It Crystal Clear

The fund doesn’t just hand out resources and walk away. There’s a structured system for:

  • phased support delivery
  • utilisation tracking
  • impact monitoring

It’s transparency with receipts, literally. This ensures the fund remains accountable and creates long-term value for patients nationwide.

Beyond nutrition support, the collaboration pushes for stronger education and awareness.

NCSM will spearhead programmes to empower patients, caregivers, and communities with the knowledge to navigate prevention, treatment, and survivorship because good information is part of good health.

NCSM President Dato’ Dr Saunthari Somasundaram says the fund is all about whole-person care:

“Cancer care isn’t just treatment protocols. It’s dignity, knowledge, and access to essential resources. This partnership prioritises accessibility, sustainability, and transparency while strengthening long-term support.”

For Wong Chin Cheang, Group Managing Director of Pharm-D Health Science, the fund reflects a home-grown commitment:

“As a Malaysian company, our responsibility goes beyond making health solutions. This Fund is a long-term commitment to support patients with access to specialised nutrition, education, and sustainable care.”

A Step Forward for Malaysia’s Cancer Community

The World Cancer Day 2026 programme hosted by NCSM brought together national stakeholders: all rallying behind a more inclusive, sustainable cancer care ecosystem.

And the VALENS Support Fund? It’s not just a project; it’s a mindset shift.

One that recognises every patient’s story, supports their unique needs, and reinforces that specialised nutrition and education are core parts of comprehensive cancer care.

In a world full of slogans and hashtags, this initiative stands out for being real, practical, and deeply human; truly honouring the spirit of “United by Unique.”
