Eco-Shop And Kechara Soup Kitchen Deliver Over Rm 20,000 In Aid To Old Folks’ Homes Across Klang Valley And Johor

Eco-Shop has successfully concluded Jelajah Kasih Bersama Eco-Shop, its month-long festive initiative run in partnership with Kechara Soup Kitchen. Spanning the Chinese New Year and Ramadan periods, the campaign delivered more than RM20,000 worth of monetary aid and essential goods to ten old folks’ homes across Klang Valley and Johor, carried out in support of the national Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme.

Among the homes that received support were the National Council of Senior Citizens Organisations, Pusat Jagaan Warga Emas Suria, Tong Sim Senior Citizens Care Centre, Amitabha Foundation Elder Home, and Destiny Starting Point Welfare Association Klang, among others. Eco-Shop teams conducted personal visits to some of the homes, distributing essential care bundles and spending time with residents – a deliberate choice to make the initiative feel human rather than transactional.

Ramadan is a time that reminds us of the importance of empathy, generosity, and community. Through Jelajah Kasih Bersama Eco-Shop, we wanted to connect with families on the ground and understand their needs firsthand – not just show up with goods, but genuinely listen. While Chinese New Year and Ramadan are different in tradition, they share the same spirit of togetherness and care, and that is what this initiative is built on,” said Jessica Ng, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Eco-Shop Malaysia.

Members of the public also played a part. Through the Bakul Jelajah Kasih activation at selected Eco-Shop stores, customers were invited to purchase essential goods via the SARA programme and place donations into designated in-store collection bins, turning everyday shopping into an act of community giving.

As the campaign wraps up, Eco-Shop’s expanded SARA product range – developed in partnership with MyKasih Foundation. Now covering over 60 essential items including rice, cooking oil, eggs, beverages and instant food, with prices starting from RM2.60 and above at selected stores. The range gives SARA recipients greater flexibility to manage their daily needs throughout the year, beyond the festive season.

“We hope that Jelajah Kasih Bersama Eco-Shop has shown that care and togetherness are not just festive sentiments –  they are values we carry with us all year round. As Eco-Shop continues to grow, so does our commitment to the communities that have supported us. We look forward to doing more,” Jessica Ng concluded.
