Meet Value Food: Malaysia’s Homegrown App to Rescue Surplus Food, Save Money and Reduce Waste

Kuala Lumpur, June 2026 – Value Food is a Malaysian surplus food marketplace app that connects consumers with local cafés, bakeries, restaurants, hotels, and grocers, allowing them to rescue surprise bags of excess food at a fraction of the original retail price.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Malaysians generate approximately 39,000 tonnes of solid waste daily, with food waste accounting for 35.5% of the total, equivalent to an estimated 13,800 tonnes each day. Value Food provides a practical approach to this issue by working with businesses to turn excess food into accessible meals.

“Every day, perfectly edible food ends up in landfills simply because it isn’t sold,” says Hariharan Nagendran, Co-founder of Value Food.

“We built Value Food to change that. We connect businesses with surplus food to consumers looking to enjoy quality food at lower prices. This helps businesses generate value from unsold food while reducing waste, and gives consumers access to affordable, sustainable food options. It’s a collaborative model that benefits consumers, businesses, and the environment.”

Currently active across the Klang Valley with nationwide expansion underway, Value Food’s growing network now includes over 100,000 app downloads and over 300 merchant partners. To date, the platform has helped rescue more than 80,000 Value Bags, preventing over 200,000kg of CO2 emissions, with both figures continuing to rise as more merchants and users join the platform.

Win-Win-Win for People, Planet and Profit.

Value Food operates on a simple, triple-win framework where everyone benefits:

  • For Customers: Gain access to delicious meals, artisan bakes, and fresh groceries at 50% to 70% off their original retail prices, without compromises on food quality.
  • For Businesses: Transform surplus inventory into recovered revenue while optimising operational efficiency and effortlessly boost ESG goals.
  • For the Planet: Every Value Bag rescued helps divert food waste from decomposition in landfills, actively lowering Malaysia’s carbon footprint.

A Marketplace Built Around Malaysian Tastes

Value Food reflects Malaysia’s diverse dining culture by offering selections across a wide variety of F&B merchants.

Users can rescue high-quality bakes and savoury dishes from household global favourites like Krispy Kreme, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Paris Baguette, and BHC Chicken, or discover trendy neighbourhood treats from beloved local cafes like Lisette’s Café & Bakery, Touché Pastries & More, and Noon Viennoiserie Cafe.

The app also features daily comforts unique to the Malaysian palate, offering hearty staples from local banana leaf restaurants, mixed rice vendors, and neighbourhood mamak eateries.

How it Works: Food Rescue in 3 Easy Steps

Saving food with Value Food is simple:

1. Browse: Open the app to find nearby restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and stores with available Value Bags.
2. Secure: Select your preferred Value Bag and complete payment securely through the app.

Freshness & Food Safety

To ensure top-tier quality, all Value Bags are prepared, packed, and handled directly by the participating merchants themselves, adhering strictly to their established operational and food safety standards.
