Johor Bahru, 29 June 2026 — The first-ever “Walk With Hope for Dementia” jointly organised by SilverGenz and JOHOR ALZHEIMER’S & DEMENTIA DAY CARE ASSOCIATION (JOBADA), concluded successfully at Taman Merdeka, Johor Bahru, bringing together more than 143 participants from across Johor in support of Alzheimer’s and dementia awareness, caregiver wellbeing, and community engagement.
Supported by Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB), the event successfully raised RM119,579 through registrations, sponsorships, donations, and community contributions. All funds raised through the initiative will be 100% donated to JOBADA to support its Alzheimer’s and dementia care centre operations, community outreach programmes, awareness initiatives, and caregiver support services.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than 260,000 Malaysians are living with dementia, with the number expected to rise as Malaysia’s population continues to age. Through “Walk With Hope for Dementia”, SilverGenz and JOBADA hope to encourage greater public understanding, empathy, and support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia as well as their caregivers and families.
“Alzheimer’s and dementia are issues that affect not only individuals but also families and communities. Today’s encouraging turnout reflects the growing awareness and compassion among Johoreans towards supporting healthy ageing and Alzheimer’s and dementia-related causes. MBJB is proud to support initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing and social responsibility.”
“We are deeply encouraged by the overwhelming support received from the community. ‘Walk With Hope for Dementia’ was never just about completing a walk; it was about starting conversations, building understanding, and creating stronger support networks for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia and their caregivers. Every participant, sponsor, and supporter has contributed towards making a meaningful difference for the Alzheimer’s and dementia community.”
“Behind every dementia diagnosis is a family learning to overcome new challenges. At JOBADA, we see caregivers balancing work, family responsibilities, and the emotional demands of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and dementia. As our population continues to age, more families will face similar experiences.”
“Beyond fundraising, initiatives like Walk With Hope for Dementia play an important role in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and helping families know that they are not alone in this journey. We are grateful to everyone who came together today to support the Alzheimer’s and dementia community in Johor.”
Building on the success of Walk With Hope for Dementia, SilverGenz and JOBADA will be launching another public awareness campaign about dementia, caregiving, and healthy ageing, in conjunction with World Alzheimer’s Month this September. Together, the two partners hope to continue fostering greater understanding and support for individuals living with dementia and the families who care for them.
