PUTRAJAYA, April 10 — The RM1,000 fine imposed on flouters of the Movement Control Order (MCO) is probably too low to stop them from doing it, according to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Hence, he said the government might ask the Ministry of Health (MOH) to discuss with the Attorney-General on the possibility to raise the fine or jail sentence imposed on those who violated the order.
“I don’t know why many people are still flouting the MCO, I can’t be sure…maybe the RM1,000 fine is too low.
“If we look at other countries, Singapore for example, starting April 17, anyone who commits the first offence (against such order) will face a fine of $10,000, while for the second offence, $20,000,” he told the daily press conference on MCO here today.
