A Guide to Perfume Types: Difference Between EDT, EDP, EDC & Fraiche

When you are searching for your signature scent, simply picking is tough enough.  What form should you get? Scanning the shelves, you will see types of perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and more. Sounds like they are all fancy names for similar things, but there are pretty distinct differences.

Any fragrance gets its smell from scented oils, which are cut with alcohol and sometimes water. Fragrances with a higher concentration of those oils generally last longer once you spritz them on. No matter what form you buy, find out what your favorite perfume scent says about your personality.

Perfume

Parfum is the most expensive due the percentage of concentration contains 20% to 30% concentrated perfume oil in it making it the most concentrated of all perfume types.

It is the most pricey among all of them. Parfum lasts up to usually 12 hours or more. Recommended for people who want to enjoy richer and more complex tend to last much longer.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)

Eau de Parfum or EDP is the second most concentrated than Eau de Toilette (EDT) and Eau de Cologne (EDC). It lasts for 8-12 hours. Popular among women for long-lasting scent.

It also justifies the price of EDP being higher than EDT. Eau de Parfum generally has a fragrance concentration of between 15% and 20%. Recommended for all occasions and dates.

Eau de Toilette’ (EDT)

Most perfumes on the market such as those sold in supermarkets or grocery are of the EDT type because they are cheaper. It most suitable fragrance among men. In general, the concentration of fragrance in EDT is lower than EDP, which is only 5% to 15%.

It lasts for 6-10 hours. Recommended for who wants to try new fragrance or something light.

Eau de Cologne (EDC)

Eau de Cologne or EDC means a lesser concentrated, 2% to 5% only than EDT. EDC perfume is not as generic as the rest and often times EDC type perfumes are usually the classic ones.

Eau de Cologne contains is slightly more concentrated than Eau Fraiche. EDC is also suitable for men and women who want something light and fresh.

One can expect up to 4-6 hours. Recommended for people who want something nice and affordable.

Eau Fraiche

Eau Fraiche is a type of perfume consists of the lowest amount of concentrated perfume oil. It is normally more affordable than it’s usual “EDT or EDP” version. This is because it only contains 1% to 2% of perfume.

Eau Fraiche tends to 2-4 hours but spraying on clothes would certainly last longer. Now you must be wondering why would anyone want to buy this type of perfume. There is still a large demand for it mainly because Eau Fraiche perfume is the freshest among others.
