Many people had to evacuate from a post office in the town of Schweinfurt, Germany due to a pungent smell from a suspected package. The smells also have made 12 postal workers receive medical treatment.
The incident that happens on Saturday last week has resulted in firefighters, police, and emergency services were called to investigated the package.
“Due to the unknown content, it was initially unclear whether the suspect package posed a greater risk,” explain the Schweinfurt police department in a statement.
Before the package was examined, it is believed that around 60 employees were forced to leave and the entire post office was evacuated.
It turns out that the pungent smells from the package were 4 durian fruit from Thailand. The package belongs to a 50-year-old resident of the town who wants to send the fruit to a friend in Nuremberg.
“A total of twelve postal workers who complained of nausea had to be taken care of on-site,” added the police. He also said that six of the workers were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The fruit was then delivered to the intended recipient.
