Mumbai Open New Hospitals As COVID-19 Death Case In India Rises

India’s largest city, Mumbai has announced that they have open four new COVID-19 hospitals that include one at a horseracing track on Tuesday.

The hospitals were opened as the COVID-19 death toll in India rises past 20,000 death.

It is reported that the country recently has around 769,000 cases of infections, becoming the third-highest COVID-19 cases globally.

Hospitals in cities like Mumbai and Delhi were currently struggling because of its large population.

Mumbai which has a quarter of India’s death cases has resulted in their authorities building makeshift hospitals and quarantine facilities.

Places like schools, hotels, and even a stadium have all been repurposed. On Tuesday, four new hospitals were opened. That includes the Mahalaxmi horseracing venue which has 700 beds inside.

Together, the new facilities will provide an extra 3,500 beds in the city that have around 20 million people.

Previously, hospitals in India were overwhelmed with many patients every day. Even the health workers have complained that they were facing severe staff shortages.

Until now, India has reported almost 770,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 20,000 death.
