Wearing a face mask is an important preventative method. It is to prevent about 60 percent of the spread of respiratory tract diseases that are spread through viruses including COVID-19.
The epidemic can be spread through coughs, colds, and even contact. So, people are advised to wear a face mask every time they leave the house. However, not many people know how to wear a proper face mask.
In addition to three-layer face masks, the World Health Organization (WHO) also recommends the use of fabric face masks to curb the spread of epidemics.
Here are the features of selecting fabric face masks according to WHO recommendations:
1. It is recommended for those who do not have respiratory symptoms and are at the site of widespread COVID-19 infection and social imprisonment is practiced.
2. The inner layer should absorb water such as cotton or cotton blend. Its function is to absorb liquid droplets.
3. The middle layer should be waterproof and made of synthetic, non-woven materials such as polypropylene or cotton. Its function is to increase filtration or absorb liquid droplets.
4. The outer layer prevents water absorption. Examples of materials are Polypropylene, polyester, or its mixture. Its function is to limit pollution from the outside from penetrating into the wearer’s nose and mouth.
