Boutique Employees Forced to Do Frog Squats for Underperforming

Every worker is protected under the employment act depending on each country. The employment act is created to protect the workers from the wrongdoings of the employers.

Without these laws, workers are exposed to a number of threats. The law includes minimum wage, discrimination, workers’ compensation, and the safety and health of the workers.

In Singapore, employees from a boutique claimed that they were bullied by more senior staff to do weird punishments such as frog squats. They will be punished for making mistakes such as failing to cap their pen, forgetting to switch off the electric kettle, or gaining weight.

Apart from the squats, the employees who aged between 20 to 27, will also have to pay between $1 and $5 depending on the mistakes they did.

One former employee said she had to pay a few hundred dollars in her first month of working. She decided to quit the job after five months as she can’t bear it anymore.

They also have to work 12 hours a day with only 10 to 20 minutes for a meal break. Another thing that making this worst is that they have to take extra shifts without extra payment.

However, a spokesperson from the boutique rebutting the claim. The spokesperson stated that no employees were forced to do the punishments and every punishment was an employee-led initiative.
