Color Psychology & How Color Meanings Affect You

In 1666, English scientist Sir Isaac Newton discovered that when pure white light passes through a prism, it separates into all of the visible colors. Newton also found that each color is made up of a single wavelength and cannot be separated any further into other colors.

Why is color such a powerful force in our lives? What effects can it have on our bodies and minds? While perceptions of color are somewhat subjective, there are some color effects that have universal meaning.

Red:  Red is the color of fire, sunlight, and the color of blood. This color affects the warmth, happiness, courage, enthusiasm, strength, passion, and are also a sign of remembrance.

In psychology, the color red is a symbol of energy, action, strength, and joy. The dominance of the color red can stimulate the senses such as increasing appetite and sexual arousal.

Red color pronounced with violence and anxiety. Red fans are also said to be vindictive, greedy, and easily offended. To maintain its balance red color is good if combined with a light blue color.

Orange (Red and yellow combination):  Orange symbolizes cheerfulness, warmth, enthusiasm, full of social sense of friendship, and optimism.

This color has a strong appeal, as it is able to stimulate the eyesight. This color is suitable to be matched with purple or blue to give a unique effect and have its own class.

Blue Color: Blue is the color of the sky and the sea. It gives a wide picture of space, peaceful colors, cool, and can calm the mind. Generally, blue has a calming effect and it is believed that blue can overcome insomnia, high blood pressure, and migraine.

Blue is also said to be a corporate color because it gives a professional and trustworthy effect. Apart from that, the color blue is also said to stimulate individuals to communicate.

Based on the view of psychology, dark blue color can stimulate positive thinking and light blue can help calm the mind while increasing concentration.

Yellow: Gives an effect of joy, serenity, and cheerfulness. In other words, this color also contains the meaning of optimism, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness.

From a psychological point of view, the color yellow can stimulate mental activity. The color yellow is very well used to aid logical reasoning and analysis so that individuals who like the color yellow tend to be wiser and smarter from the academic side, they are more creative and good at creating original ideas.

Green color:  It symbolizes freshness, peace, and relaxation as well as relaxation. According to the psychological view, green is very helpful for someone who is in a depressing situation to balance emotions and facilitate openness in communicating.

This is because the green color has a relaxing and calming effect.

White color:  One of the advantages of the white color is its ability to help reduce fear or anger. This is because white has the effect of freedom and openness. The disadvantage of white is that it can give a headache and the eyes can become tired if this color is too dominant.

Brown Color:  Brown color is one of the colors that contain earth elements. Brown can give a modern, sophisticated, and expensive effect because the color is close to the color gold.

Black:  Most people will be afraid of black. Many believe the color black invites reinforcement, gloom, and fear. Even so, black is defined as a color that is mysterious, independent, dramatic, and quiet.
