Ho Chi Minh City Party chief, Nguyen Thien Nhan said that Da Nang in Vietnam must be placed under a lockdown similar to Wuhan in China.
It is reported that the city has recorded 146 confirmed cases since the first case was discovered on July 25. Until now, it is the city with most cases in Vietnam.
As stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), one of the criteria for a country to declare a national epidemic is having 10 cases for every million people.
“In Vietnam, the ratio is currently 2.7 infections per million, and so, generally speaking, we are still safe. However, Da Nang is another story as it has gone far beyond that threshold,” said Nhan in an online government meeting on Sunday.
Since July 28, Da Nang has begun 15 days of social distancing, which needed people to stay at home and maintain a distance of at least two meters from each other when in public. Except in offices, schools, and hospitals, social gatherings of more than two people are prohibited.
Nhan also giving suggestions that “Da Nang should apply the strictest measures to control the outbreak” just like in Wuhan, China, and people must be quarantine at home.
“The biggest challenge now is to make quarantining at home as effective as possible, and each person should have the responsibility to monitor others,” he added.
Until now, Vietnam has recorded 652 COVID-19 cases and 6 deaths.
