Floating Gardens in Mexico Reopens After 5 Months Lockdown

The pandemic has certainly affected the tourism industry. The industry has been dropping its profit as most tourist services and places were forced to close due to coronavirus. The tourists too are stopping themselves from going for holidays to avoid being infected by the coronavirus.

After a few months, the pandemic has slow down and getting stable in a few countries. Thus, they have started to allow the tourism industry to reopen. This is a step taken to regain the country’s economy that drops during the lockdown.

In Mexico City, the famous “floating gardens” of Xochimilco has reopened to the visitors. The gardens have closed for five months due to the lockdown.

The gardens are famous for the canals that run through a man-made island created by the Aztecs. It is a popular place for tourists which provide with flat-bottom boats plying the water and mariachis playing music.

The borough government cleaned and disinfected boats and docks for extra precaution steps. They also enforced special hygiene rules. However, there are fewer tourists coming after the opening of the gardens. It shows great contrast as the gardens once received visitors up to 2 million people to the floating garden in 2015.

Mexico’s economy somehow also depends on its tourism. Because of coronavirus, it leads the domestic and foreign visitors to stay home. Nearly 90,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and about 1,000 deaths had occurred in Mexico City.
