The Kuala Lumpur High Court recently found a 19-year-old boy guilty of killing 23 individuals in the Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah fire incident that shocked the country in 2017.
According to BERNAMA, the teenager failed to raise reasonable doubts in his defense which denied him entering the fence of the tahfiz center.
In this regard, the court ordered the teenager to be jailed for as long as allowed by the Yang Dipertuan Agong.
In the incident on 14 September 2017, a total of 21 tahfiz students and two wardens were killed in a fire between 4.15 am and 6.45 am.
Citing a Bernama report, a defense witness said he and the accused and other friends had smoked marijuana before the incident.
He claimed that they had ridden a motorcycle to a hut in Taman Balak, Datuk Keramat to smoke marijuana around 1 to 2 am the same day.
