These Animals Already Use Social Distancing To Fend-Off Infections – Study

The spreading of the coronavirus is at its fast rate. We are aware of every cluster that was detected in our country. The prevention steps were taken to slow down the spreading of this virus including social distancing. The worry of the virus has made people to diligently follow the prevention step.

No doubt, most of us are adapting to the new normal. We have never thought that this year we are going to familiarize ourselves with a new way of socializing.

Social distancing is believed to be one of the important steps as it will help to limit the opportunities to come in contact with contaminated surfaces and infected people.

Animals have proved that social distancing can curb the spreading of disease.

Naturally, animals will avoid other sick animals as they have the sense to detect diseases. They developed chemical markers that will detect sick members in their society.

Animals such as birds, monkeys, and fishes practice social distancing by avoiding the sick member at any cost. Wild mandrils will stop grooming other monkeys if they were infected by parasites. Mandril feces will give a distinct odor as a warning sign. Bees will emit chemicals that other bees can detect and remove the sick member from the hive.

Dana Hawley, a biologist at the Virginia Polytech Institute stated, that we can see from these animals that social distancing works. The animals practice various ways of social distancing and we believed that this step can be successful if we take it seriously.
