Most foods have their expiration date. Expiration dates are important for every food. Consuming foods that have passed the expiration date usually can cause a lot of harm.
We take seriously on this as we don’t want to be getting those diseases. However, we are not well-conscious on the expiration date on bottled water. Some of us even reuse the bottle a few times before throwing it into the bin. Yes, bottled water does give harm if we use it beyond the expiration date.
The expiration date on the bottled water is not related to the quality of the water, but it is because of the bottle itself. The plastic of the bottle is made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
According to a health expert, Amy Leigh Mercree, when the bottle is expired or being exposed to sunlight or heat, these plastics will leach into the water. Apart from affecting the taste, the toxicity from the plastics will enter the water and can cause serious health problems.
Mercree said that most companies print the standard two-year expiration date. But to decide when the bottled water is not good to be consumed, it still depends on several other factors.
A brand new bottled water can be contaminated with toxic if the bottled water is kept in a hot delivery truck for hours. The best way is to drink the water as soon as you bought the bottled water.
