Coronavirus has put a stop to a planned of a Flat Earthers cruise to Antarctica, where their mission is to find the giant wall of ice which they believed surrounded our flat disc of a planet. An Italian couple took matters into their own hands.
Both of them from Venice, set sail towards Lampedusa, an island located between Sicily and North Africa. Their hope is to find “the end of the world”, which they believe is near the Sicilian island.
The couple sold their car in order to buy the boat in Termini Imerese, a town located in northern Sicily. They had to sail around the island to make it to Lampedusa, a place that has become a common transit for the migrants and refugees who try to make the treacherous journey from Africa to Europe across the Mediterranean Sea.
The Flat Earther duo didn’t quite make it to their destination. They both then ended up on an island situated just northwest of where they set off, and a very far away from Lampedusa.
A doctor who helped them after they get lost, from the maritime health office of the Ministry of Health, revealed that they were using a compass to navigate.
“The funny thing is that they orient themselves with the compass, an instrument that works on the basis of terrestrial magnetism,” said the doctor.
“A principle that they, as Flat Earthers, should reject,” he added.
Before the couple trying to escape, they both were taken into quarantine on Ustica, then trying and failing to escape once again. After they had decided to stay put and fulfill their required time in quarantine, the couple then abandoned their boat and took a ferry back to mainland Italy.
