Sweet corn is a starchy vegetable and cereal grain and once you eat it, you definitely want it again. But what are the benefits of corn? It’s fun to eat, but when we talk about the food, we might want to know about its benefit.

About 10,000 years ago, corn was first grown in parts of Mexico and Central America. Corn is usually white or yellow but some are red, purple, or even blue.

Corn is usually considered a vegetable but is actually a grain, which is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. If you like to eat corn, then this is the time to add it to your diet.

Corn may be high in sugar (sucrose), but there are some other properties of this grain that should not be overlooked. Eating corn, you can probably get the following health benefits.

1.Reduces the risk of Anemia

Corn is rich in vitamin B12, folic acid, and iron which help the production of red blood cells in the body. It helps reduce the risk of Anemia, by supplying enough nutrients needed to produce red blood cells.

According to nutritionists, 1 cup of raw corn contains 125 calories, 27 g of carbohydrates, 4 g of protein, 9 g of sugar, 2 g of fat, and 75 mg of iron.

2.Energy booster

If you are an athlete or like to sweat in the gym, then it is best to include corn in your daily diet to add energy. Corn contains complex carbohydrates that are digested at a slower rate, which in turn provides energy for longer periods of time.

One cup of corn produces about 29 grams of carbohydrates that not only provide physical energy but also keep the brain and nervous system functioning properly.

Sweet corn and corn oil increase blood flow, lower cholesterol absorption, and regulate insulin, making it a good choice for diabetics and cholesterol sufferers.

According to the Diet and Health Consultant based in Bangalore, India, Dr. Sheela Krishnaswamy, “Corn is rich in carbohydrates, it is a great source of energy. Corn is also rich in vitamins B1, B5, and C, which helps in fighting disease and producing new cells.

High in fiber, corn also helps lower cholesterol levels in the body by reducing blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Corn contains vitamin C and lycopene (antioxidants) which increase collagen production and prevent free radicals produced by UV from damaging the skin.
