According to nutritionists, 1 cup of raw corn contains 125 calories, 27 g of carbohydrates, 4 g of protein, 9 g of sugar, 2 g of fat, and 75 mg of iron.

If you are an athlete or like to sweat in the gym, then it is best to include corn in your daily diet to add energy. Corn contains complex carbohydrates that are digested at a slower rate, which in turn provides energy for longer periods of time.

One cup of corn produces about 29 grams of carbohydrates that not only provide physical energy but also keep the brain and nervous system functioning properly.

According to the Diet and Health Consultant based in Bangalore, India, Dr. Sheela Krishnaswamy, “Corn is rich in carbohydrates, it is a great source of energy. Corn is also rich in vitamins B1, B5, and C, which helps in fighting disease and producing new cells.

High in fiber, corn also helps lower cholesterol levels in the body by reducing blood sugar levels in diabetics.

5. Maintain healthy skin

Corn contains vitamin C and lycopene (antioxidants) which increase collagen production and prevent free radicals produced by UV from damaging the skin.

Apart from being eaten, its products such as corn oil, corn starch can be used directly on the skin and is often used as an ingredient in many cosmetic products. So, look for the goodness of corn by adding it to your diet.

Corn is usually eaten like sweet corn, popcorn, tortillas, chips, corn flour, corn porridge, oil, and syrup, or added to other foods and dishes.
