Lipstick, Eye Makeup Sales Drop As Mask Shift Beauty Priorities

Since the Covid-19 Pandemic outbreak, many people have been advised to wear a face mask or even face shields when they are out in public. This is because they wanted to prevent the dangerous virus from keep spreading around towards other people if there is any carrier of the virus wandering around out there. This situation has affected the sale strategy for all the beauty industries out there worldwide.

Because of the wide usage of face mask all around the world, the sales of lipsticks have a critical fall by the amount of 10-12 percent, while the eye makeup items have been on the rise since then. Cem Şenbay, one of the bosses of cosmetic giant Flormar stated that “The pandemic has not put a halt on the cosmetics industry. But changed the sales of products”. He also added, “The sales of lip products have decreased, while the sales of eye products have increased”. He strengthens the point that mascaras especially were drawing most of the demand for now.

Other than that, the businessman also called out about the habits of shopping that have changes due to the outbreak. He said, “Before the outbreak, we were opening a new shop every four days and delivering around 250 products a minute.”  He also said adding that they had shifted their focus on e-commerce as visits to shopping malls nosedived.

Fun Fact, Flormar is a cosmetics chain that was established in 2008. This particular shop already owns 180 shops in Turkey and also 670 stores around the globe.
