Security Guard Crushed To Death By Falling Tree

TAIPING, Oct 14  — A motorcyclist was killed when a roadside tree broke off and fell onto him as he was passing through a road at Kampung Relang, Batu Kurau yesterday.

Hamize Abu Bakar, 58, a school security guard who was riding alone died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

Taiping district police chief ACP Osman Mamat said the victim was heading home when the accident happened at 1.50 pm.

He said the areca nut tree was believed to have broken off due to strong winds which were buffeting the area.

“We were alerted to the incident by MERS 999 (the Malaysian Emergency Response Services) and upon arriving at the scene, we found the victim was lying beside his motorcycle.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he told Bernama adding that the victim’s body was sent to the Taiping Hospital for post-mortem.
