A 102-year-old woman is now at home after beating COVID-19. The old woman named Della Hathorne spent almost two weeks at Mercy Hospital Logan County. She was infected with the virus, before being allowed to leave the hospital on Wednesday last week.
Hathorne’s departure from the hospital was accompanied by applause from doctors, nurses and staff, after successfully fighting COVID-19. She is now at home, under the care of a home health nurse.
“You’re appreciative and thankful and blessed,” said Hathorne.
Hathorne is a mother of seven children, a grandmother of 26 grandchildren, and a great-grandmother of more than 100 great-grandchildren. Despite her age, she successfully resisted and survived the COVID-19 virus.
“Can’t believe it. Because all of the rules are you don’t make it through if you’re a certain age because it’s hard on them,” said one of her children, Lorenzo.
Hathorne said she was grateful to be with her family, which she said never stopped praying for her recovery. Not only that, but she also thanked the staff at the hospital, who were always there with her.
“I just want to say, ‘Thank the Lord be.’ That’s what it is,” she said. Hathorne is looking forward to spending the holidays with her family. She will turn 103 years old on January 30.
