‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ Activist, Patrick Quinn Dies Aged 37

Patrick Quinn, one of the men who helped propel the infamous ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ fundraising campaign, was reported to have died at the age of 37, seven years after his diagnosis.

Quinn who is from Yonkers, New York, was diagnosed with an incurable neurological disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2013.

The matter was confirmed through a statement on his official Facebook page.

“It is with great sadness that we must share the passing of Patrick early this morning. He was a blessing to us all in so many ways. We will always remember him for his inspiration and courage in his tireless fight against ALS,” said the statement.

The Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media in the summer of 2014, when people around the world posted their videos and photos throwing buckets of ice water on their heads and challenging others to do the same or make a donation to ALS research.

Although the challenge did not start with him, Quinn, his family, and friends helped it become a worldwide phenomenon across social media in 2014.
