Last October, there has been a new cluster of COVID-19 unleashed at a market named Central Fish Market that is located specifically on the border of Colombo. The outbreak has caused billions of positive COVID-19 cases there before it eventually spread even wider to a different area. Because of that, the citizens there become so afraid to eat or buy the fishes there and this has caused loss for the fish business. They are worried that they might get infected with COVID-19.
This situation makes the country even worse if there is no one to buy fishes. Their action for not buying fish could make the financial status of fisherman, wholesaler, and also retailers become deteriorate. It also would affect the economy of a particular country. To gain back the confidence and also trust of all the citizens to buy fish again, one specific politician of Sri Lanka has taken very drastic action. He has decided to eat raw fish just to prove to them all.
Dilip Wedaarachchi who is also the former Fisheries Minister of Sri Lanka decided to eat raw fish during a press conference last Tuesday. The actual intention for him to do that is to help boost again the sale of selling fish there. This is because this COVID-19 situation has affected a particular business in a very bad way.
According to a statement, billion tons of fishes has been reported to not be able to sell after Central Fish Market got ordered to be closed when COVID-19 happened. Sri Lanka now has 17,831 positive COVID-19 cases and 61 death.
