Benefits Of The Lockdown, 4 Siblings Create ‘Corona’ Board Games

The COVID-19 pandemic that struck caused the world’s population to spend a lot of time just sitting at home following the lockdown imposed.

With the opportunities available, many are taking the opportunity to hone their skills such as cooking, carpentry, and farming.

The situation is different with the four Schwaderlapp siblings in the western city of Wiesbaden, Germany who have created a board game called ‘Corona’.

Played by four players, who compete to buy all the groceries on a shopping list for an elderly neighbor who is shielding against the virus.

“The basic principle is one of solidarity,” said one of the siblings, 20-year-old Sarah.

Each player will collect and exchange game cards and the winner is selected based on who successfully completes the mission by filling in the list of required neighbor items.

In this game, players will face challenges such as viruses that can cause them to be quarantined or individuals who make panic purchases. Impressed with his daughters’ efforts, father Benedikt Schwaderlapp decided to hire designers to design cards, boxes, and game boards for it to be commercialized.

“Because the game has been so popular it’s been quite a challenge for our family-based operation – packing and posting 500 games within a very short period,” he said.

Already signed an agreement with a toy company as a secondary distributor, this Corona board game is in high demand in Germany and so far 2,000 units have been successfully sold.

“Demand has been massive from across Germany,” added Benedikt.
